A contract between the Wi-Fi alliance and the Wireless Gigabit Alliance is now permitting the Wi-Fi Alliance to generate innovative specs and standards and accept the 60-GHz frequency band for Wi-fi.

Nowadays, Wi-fi bands function within 2.4-5 GHz bands and are considered in low hundreds of megabits per second.
The new 60GHz frequency will permit speeds in the gigabits per second range of 1 gigabits per second to 6 gbps, in contradiction of Wi-fi speeds at the instant of 150 Mbps for 802.11n.Forecaster at ABI Research,
Xavier Ortiz speaks, “Moving to the 60GHz frequency for Wi-fi may be the first step toward helping consumers go truly wireless.”
The major disadvantage with 60GHz is that the higher frequency waves have a greatly shorter range and will not be capable to go from side to side walls, performing similar to a beam of light and by line of sight.
Routers proficient to switch between 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz and the 60-GHz band should be accessible in the after that two years.
